WELCOME!

Picture
This website is mostly about the craziest and most irresponsible decision we ever made...

The original website was written during our adventures over a four year period from 2014 to 2018.  This is now updated as the history and highlights of what we did and saw on our time on Rascal.

In 2014
, we sold our home in Alexandria, VA, put the money in the bank, put everything in storage, bought a sailboat, and left the country. We got the boat in Georgetown, MD, re-commissioned her as "Rascal" and sailed down the Chesapeake Bay to Hampton, VA where we joined the Salty Dawg Rally for a 1,500 mile North Atlantic ocean journey to The Caribbean--with Fred and Chris (experienced sailors) as our crew and sail instructors. We left Hampton on the day after the official hurricane season (November 1) and arrived in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, nine days later. The trip was grueling (more about that elsewhere). After a few days recovering at Fred and Chris' vacation home, we set off on our own and  sailed through the Caribbean island chain, the ABC's, Columbia, Panama, Cayman Islands, Mexico, Key West, St. Augustine, FL, and Charleston, SC. --  anchoring here, docking there, a day here, a month there--until we decided it was time.

Home? Home is where we dropped the anchor. We expected to live on Rascal for 3-5 years until we couldn't physically do this anymore or didn't want to.  However, we lived one of the greatest experiences of our lives and we're happy to share what we did with anyone who might be interested--or may need some encouragement to make their own crazy and irresponsible decision to just get up and go...

Rick and Linda Grimes

Picture

[If you're looking for Rick Grimes of AMC's The Walking Dead, you've found him BUT I don't do that zombie stuff anymore. I've moved on and you can see I'm into a lot of other things. If you want to see a highly fictionalized story of my life (half the stuff they show never happened), you should go to this link and it will take you there...Thanks for visiting...]
